Can You Put A Car Seat In The Front Seat? That’s an easy question to answer. NO! The last thing you want to do with your baby or toddler is put them in the front seat of a car. It’s dangerous and almost all States in the US. as well as many other countries around the world have laws against putting car seats in the front seat.  In this blog post, we will explore why putting a car seat in the front seat is not a good idea and give some tips on how to get your child safely into a car seat. Keep reading to learn more!

What Is The Law Regarding Putting A Child In The Front Seat Of A Car?

It is a traffic law in all states of the US to put a child under the age of 8 years in a child or booster seat. All states have laws that require that children in child or booster seats travel in the back seat of the car. According to studies, the safest place for children to sit in a car is in the back seat.

Dangers Of Putting A Child In The Front Seat.

Young children do not always understand the dangers of being in the front seat. When there is a collision, the child is not protected in the way that a rear facing car seat would be.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that children age five and younger are 75% more likely to be injured in a motor vehicle accident if they are in the front seat than if they are in the back seat.

Many states require that children age 12 and younger are seated in a child safety seat or booster seat until they are 4 feet 9 inches tall. While you can put a loose booster seat in the front seat, it is best to use a car seat.

Can You Put A Baby In The Front Seat?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends keeping children in the back seat until they are at least five years old, but state laws differ. Check with your state laws or consult your pediatrician before you put a child in the front seat.

There are three main reasons to keep children in the back seat:

  • Your child is safer. In the event of a crash, a child is safer in the back seat. This is because front passengers are two to three times more likely to suffer a serious injury than rear passengers.
  • Your child is more comfortable. A child is more comfortable in the back seat. Since front passengers have less space, they are less comfortable.
  • Your car seat is installed correctly. The restraint system is evaluated as a system, so a correctly installed car seat in the back is better than a correctly installed car seat in the front.

Keep Your Eyes On The Road

As we are all very overprotective of our children, it is just human nature to be driving a car and constantly looking in the rearview mirror to make sure that our babies and toddlers are okay. However every time you look in that way if you were to check on your child you’re taking your eyes off the road in front of you. It only takes a second or two for someone to cut in front of you that you do not see because you’re staring at your baby in the back. The last thing you want to do is get into an accident because your eyes were not on the road and looking back at your baby. Use your ears while you’re driving and listen to your baby, if something is wrong you will be able to hear it. As many of us live in areas where traffic is a problem you will have the chance when you’re stopped to look back at your baby to make sure everything is okay. when you’re driving keep your eyes on the road and your ears open and that way your baby will be safe.
